The course aims to provide students with current critical discourse taking place in international relations scholarship. The critical theory as such has its roots in Marxism, however towards the end of the Cold War other approaches were formed as environmentalism and feminism, and later social constructivism. Currently, a global or globalizing IR is a trend looking at the non-western scholarship in IR building on traditional critical theory.

Students will learn about the ongoing discourse in IR, they will be able to distinguish between different approaches and their development. They will gain knowledge of critical concepts in IR and will be able to critically assess the overall trends in IRT. In addition, students will learn about a unique discourse on European and Central and Eastern European scholarship that is currently evolving among IR scholars in the region and Europe.
